Description:
Deceiver, Cockroach
This fly is so effective there's actually a US postal stamp celebrating the creator and this pattern. Not just for saltwater...
Typically thought of as a saltwater baitfish pattern, this pattern in smaller sizes is very effective in freshwater for bass, trout, pike, walleye and other fish. Not all Deceivers are tied to directly imitate baitfish, they are often tied as attractor patterns. The cockroach version of this fly can be used anywhere as an attractor pattern and is especially effective for Tarpon.
The wings (long feathers) are tied in at the back half of the fly to give the pattern lots of action with subtile strips pulling the fly upwards and allowing it to sink a few inches before the next line strip.
