Description:
Mahogany Comparadun
These mayflies, often called the "leadwings," are one of the major hatches of the primary season. In the eastern region prolific hatches can be expected in June and July, but the insect is an available food source from late Spring through early Fall.
The Isonychia bicolor gets its name from the bicoloration of its legs. This insect offers great hatch opportunities through the early and primary seasons. The Zug Bug is the most common nymphal imitation of this insect. They complete their emergence in the shallow sections of rivers and on rocks and streamside vegetation. Their effort to complete the final metamorphosis and prepare their wings for flight may take as long as ten minutes which makes them prime targets for trout.
